Government Launches 4 Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme

The Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) has been introduced by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) at 57 Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) nationwide beginning with the academic year 2023–2024. This is one of NCTE's key initiatives for NEP 2020.

ITEP is a 4-year dual-major comprehensive undergraduate programme that awards degrees in B.A. B.Ed., B.Sc. B. Ed., and B.Com. B.Ed. as of October 26, 2021. This training will prepare instructors for the new school system's Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary (5+3+3+4) phases.

The curriculum is initially being provided in a pilot form in reputable Central/State Government Universities/Institutions. All students pursuing teaching as a career after secondary school will have access to ITEP. Completing the course in 4 years instead of the traditional five years needed by the current B.Ed. Plan, students will save one-year thanks to this integrated course. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will administer the National Common Entrance Examination for the same (NCET) admission.

In addition to teaching cutting-edge methodology, ITEP will lay the groundwork for foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), inclusive education, and an awareness of India and its values, ethos, art, and traditions, among other things.

The programme will make a significant contribution to the sector's overall regeneration. The future teachers who complete this degree in a multidisciplinary setting with a foundation in Indian values and traditions will be equipped with the skills necessary to meet 21st-century global standards. As a result, they will be the ones to set the path for the development of New India.
